Name: Danielle Keller

Instructions: You are to interview two people and record their responses on this form. You should state their name and their comments to your solution to the identified problem.

VI. I interviewed two individuals to see what their response would be to my (our) plan. Their responses are as follows.

Janet Cather, my aunt, has been a smoker since high school and offered these comments:

It was difficult for me to get used to the Illinois smoking ban in restaurants and public places, but I think overall it was a good move for Illinois. A few friends have even been influenced to quit as a result of the state ban, so I think a national one would yield similar results. However, many states do have a higher percentage of smokers than Illinois, so this national law may get mixed responses.

Cather, Janet. Personal interview. 19 Feb. 2011.

Lorry Fosco, my neighbor, said:
I know a big concern would be that restaurants would lose money. I also know many people at my work who complain that they have to go outside for a smoke break instead of being able to smoke in the office. I personally don't smoke and I don't mind breathing the same air but I know there are many who do. I think the workplace ban would be a great idea just because people don't have to go to restaurants, but they have to go to work.

Fosco, Lorry. Personal Interview. 20 Feb. 2011.

VII. My (our) answer, based on our research, to their objections and concerns are:

Yes, it will be difficult to get used to, but many of the articles we have found have shown that the law does have positive effects. Although my neighbor Lorry said that she knows many who are not fond of going outside to smoke, we think that the benefits given to nonsmokers are too great to overlook. Smoking is a choice, and sometimes people have to suffer the consequences (like standing out in the cold) of their actions. In addition, I think perhaps this could be an incentive to quite smoking. My two interviewees didn't have many objections, which is good! I'm very pleased that even my aunt, a smoker herself, gave us a good vibe about this bill. I think that this is a very good bill and hopefully we will receive good feedback, like that of the people I interviewed.
